What are omega-3 fatty acids? Omega-3s are essenti What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3s are essential fatty acids that support brain health, heart health, prevention of miscarriage, optimal fetal development and our cell membranes by making them more fluid/flexible, protect them from harm and support the transport of nutrients more efficiently. Omega-3s also support mental health & depression, weight loss, reducing liver fat, arthritis and intestinal inflammation.

95% of Americans do not get enough DHA & EPA

3 Types of Omega-3 Fatty Acids:
ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid) - short chain fatty acid, most common form in the Western diet, from plants, found in flax seed/oil, chia seeds, walnuts
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) & DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) - long chain fatty acids, found in wild-caught mackerel, salmon, cod liver oil, herring, oysters, sardines, anchovies, algae and seaweed

*our bodies can convert ALA to EPA or DHA, but only a small percentage of ALA is converted to EPA and even less into DHA
*EPA & DHA are the most important and are used by the brain
*In order to get EPA & DHA from fish, the fish need to be wild-caught (eat algae) because farmed fish eat grains
*DHA is the most important during pregnancy as it supports the baby’s brain and eye development

pasture-raised eggs
pasture-raised, grass-fed beef
hemp seeds
spinach
brussels sprouts
